Aurora
Just like that
After two nights
The Northern Lights went out
There had been a ring of green
A soft band of heart medicine around the horizon
Dark trees outlined so brightly that you can see their shadows in the snow
Each hour the stars swung more wildly by
across the frosty night sky,
and the glow was there when my eyes blinked awake, again.
Not a visceral dancing light show from the North,
just a hug, a silent holding
That makes you catch your breath and hold it.
Then a long, long outward sigh and
then a smile.
